It is thought that the bowls, being hand beaten from solid brass sheets,
were originally made in central China at the beginning of the bronze
age some 3000 years ago. There is a distinct art and skill required,
not only to hand beat, but also to etch and tune this item to work
correctly.
If you look closely at the intricate etched surface of the bowl you
will notice that the patterns are not perfectly symmetrical but placed
as part of the painstaking tuning process. Even the placement of the
handles is painstakingly tried and tested until found to be correctly
placed to produce the best resonance.

It can take up to one month for one craftsman to make just one bowl.
Since the birth of Buddhism, around 500 years BC, the craft has been
preserved and closely guarded by the Buddhist monks within their temples
and monastries and passed down through successive generations.
Today there are only a handful of craftsmen that can produce this
item which goes to make it so rare and uniquely valuable. Many people
have tried to mass produce this product but failed.
There is no shortcut to making something so beautiful.
